Com-pas-sion (noun) - a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.
In honor of her late husband, Jerry M. Loevner, an end-stage kidney failure patient, Sandra ("Sandy") W. Loevner learned that there is a desperate need to raise awareness among potential donors, patients, care providers and insurance companies that there are effective treatment options for kidney failure that do not rely on long-term dialysis.
By sharing her experience as a family member who struggled to identify alternatives to dialysis and other debilitating treatments and as a pioneer in the first 5-way kidney transplant, Sandy is a driving force behind the vision, mission and goals of iCompassion.org ("iCompassion").
iCompassion is a Virginia non-stock corporation, registered as a Section 501 (c)(3) non profit organization with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. iCompassion will partner with related non-profit organizations and other charitable donors to support early screening, detection and treatment of chronic kidney disease.
